Musical Discoveries: What can you tell us about the other music projects you worked on before this solo album?

Nadina: When I was a child, all my work was for charity and the majority were live performances.

I did do a remix in 2007 of "Vola, Palombella". That video you can see online. This [solo] album [In The Now] is my official debut of my work.

I did an independent album in the past, [yet] despite getting a distribution contract from a big distributor, I chose not to sign it. I feel like it should not be released although I had performed that work.

And how have your life experiences contributed to your singing and songwriting?

Life is a journey, and through experiences, you are exposed to different emotions. Songwriting andsinging were my solace. When I write songs, sometimes it's about my own experiences, but often enough, I write about experiences that those close to me have gone through. On this album, Christie Smith and I collaborated and put into lyrics situations and emotions that have occurred around us or somehow affected us in a certain way.

How were you selected to contribute vocals to the songs on the recent Delerium album?

Because I am signed with Nettwerk, they referred me to Delerium. I then was sent a demo of two songs and collaborated with Delerium on both. The process was very simple, as they had a demo already arrangement. I took the arrangement, wrote on it lyrics and created an overlaying melody. [I] sent it to them and they really liked it. They gave me the freedom to add my own personal style to their work. I was very honoured to collaborate with them as they are amazingly talented.

What creative process led to In The Now.

  Nadina

I signed with Nettwerk Records in October 2008. I then began writing on this project with Christie Smith, a great friend and vocalist. As well, I had gotten introduced to Charbel Mnayer who had just moved to BritishColumbia. My mom was the president of the Lebanese Canadian Society so he was referred to her in case he needed assistance settling into this new beautiful country.

Charbel is a well known sound engineer in the Middle East, so I was very lucky we crossed paths! He then connected me to Michel Fadel who became a composer and producer on In The Now.

Michel Fadel is a famous pianist, composer and arranger in the Middle East. The pieces of the puzzle had fit perfectly because we all got along so well and the product of our relationship is this album. Michel came from Lebanon on two separate occasions to Canada. As it was long distance, it took longer than expected to complete this album, however, by the time it was complete in 2011, we were all 100% pleased with our product.

What are your plans to promote this new solo album?

I want to connect with my Middle Eastern fans from around the world as I already have a communityfan base stemming from my past that began with "Vola, Palombella" in1986. Through my work with Delerium, I'm hoping the cross promotion will aid in getting the word out for my new album to the rest of the world. Also, I am hoping that my work will resonate and people will share my music. I love doing live shows, so that's what I plan to do. My ultimategoal would be to have live musicians on stage as the album contains more than 85% of live musicians. That is what I will be working towards.

In addition to music and your family, what else rocks your world?

Beingactive has been a lifestyle since I was a child. I very much enjoy working out, swimming and doing yoga. Being active gives me peace, mind clarity and keeps me in a positive mind set. My goals would be to use my spotlight to make a positive impact in this world through my music. I have always wanted to open my own foundation to help kids with music, as well as, helping the less fortunate, as I had done in the past. I plan to continue singing, writing, composing and producing future albums.
